Can images help to increase Google search engine rankings?

As long as image's name is the keyword, it can help.
I have lot of traffic come from image search.

ok, what is about Russian and Ukrainian Google search engines, where requests are made in the Russian language? Do I need to write image file names in Russian? The point is that I was advised to write image file names only in English.

 

agree with you and i made also the same test.
an image have 2 useage , ALT for at use it for keywords and other words that you have not it in your site content
but makes help for seo.

I never realized the file name mattered. I was just worried about the alt.

 

Could you please advise on how keywords should be put in alt tags. I mean it is better to put them together or use a dash? What are your opinions about this?
