Well i would of thought it would be ok unless your trying to compete against windows itself.

yeah it depends on what context you use the term windows in. If you are using a site to talk or promote Microsoft windows then it wouldnt be wise to have windows in your domain, but if you are going for something that isnt related to Microsoft then you'll be fine.

Well I intead to use it for a windows seven forum and resource site: Hundreds of websites on the internet use the term windows in their domains. Can anyone confirm that it is legal to do so or do I have to get authorization from Microsoft?

    Best Regards.

yes, you can use windows in the domain. I have seen several domains that has windows in it and they are quite old. Hence, they did not face any problems. You will also never receive any problems.

Considering Microsoft is your typical ruthless organization, they will always have the right to pull the plug on your owning that name at any given moment, as they do with all of those other "Windows" URLs.

    You can use it.
    Don't worry.
I have some branded domain that linked to nike but until today its running fine.
But do notes that you are not allow your site to be used as medium to spread the pirated copy of windows 7

Yeah, as a discussion forum, you should have no issues. I have domains with windows in them, as well as sites/forums about Chrome. As long as it isn't interpreted as a phishing site and providing you aren't competing or selling/harboring their software, etc... you should be in the clear.

It's pretty much alright cos I have http://Windows7arena.com for over 7 months now.
And have had no problem. Cos the site is not a competitor but an informational site about Windows !
