I stumbled across this site which as a useful graph I'd like to use for my facebook group. Am I allow to upload it as the profile picture for the group or just as a group photo. Will I face any legal ramifications for using this picture publicly? http://www.theslbloggers.org/2008/11/stress-hitting.html Additionally this picture was taken off USA Today as seen in the tag. Thanks in Advance
Generally if you have to ask the question the answer is no. And in your case it is correct. The way they're using it is danger close to infringement on USA Today, but, they are at least attempting to use it in fair use. The way you want to use it would constitute violating the copyright rights of USA Today (or the original creators if USA Today doesn't own the copyright).
it is highly risky to take this picture, you might be into some copyright issues, just remember be at peace do not try to take anything which is owned by others, you will start feeling the pain after you put, I do not say something will happen but you give a chance for something to happen like this , I suggest not to take this picture.
Oh ok thanks, was just wondering because I really wanted to use that picture but heard many horror stories about copy right issues and thus though I'd get the advice of fellow dp members. I guess I'll just provide a link directly to the site to refer members to it instead. Thanks, yeh I heard a lot of horror stories regarding copy right issues and also didn't really want to be against the law but I'm not very good with legalities so I though I'd get some advice here. Thanks I have thought of that and found a few pictures I like but that specific picture really appealed to me.
If you get USA Today's permission, there's no reason you can't post the graph. I'll take the DP members' advice though. Just use public-domain photos instead.
Why dont's you create your own graph using xl sheet. It may not be as good. But it will be original. At the bottim you can use source in the same way as USA today has done.
