Hi, I have brought a domain www.europaleague.co.uk to create an unofficial news and fan site about the new Uefa Europa League. Info on the Europa League http://www.uefa.com/uefa/keytopics/kind=64/newsid=754085.html Look forward to hearing your views. Regards Gregg
I dont think you will have a problem with it. As long as you are not saying you are part of Uefa etc or trying to get money using their name im sure its fine.
If you don't put any hints of commercial use (especially ads), coupled with the other party in question not making a fuss of it, you might...might be fine.
You may consider contacting them about it. If they say no then I advise you sell them the domain and move on with a different name. The thing is, theres a heavy chance of confusion. There is where you tun into the issue. Best thing to do is before you launch anything you contact them, ask their permission, explain what exactly you want to do. Maybe tell them you'll place an ad to their site. Try to make it a good deal from their point of view. Sell it to them, do some research. Also, make a HUGE disclaimer that you are in no way affiliated with them, just an un official fan site. Do not take any of their content (save for scores, players names, facts, etc.) and you may be able to get away with it.
Dave makes a great point. Commercial use (adwords or any revenue producing activity) is going to make you a cybersquatter. Even without commercial use, there is some risk that they will still come after you with threat letters for trademark infringement or worse. it is typically better to use the word "Can" "Commentary" or other word that will tell readers from the domain name itself that you are not the trademark registrant. Read this info on fan sites versus trademark registrant rights under the UDRP. Check out these fan site UDRP decisions by both NAF and WIPO brought to you by domainfight.net, a UDRP search engine. Good luck.
Well if you are looking forward to use a similar name or any content from any site you must contact them and ask for permission before use.
Unfortunately "should be" doesn't always mean "will be", especially if the other party decides to take action regardless of what someone else thinks.
It is a risk and I would contact them to verify their stance. It is silly to chance having your site taken down due to a mater like that. If you like the idea of a Europa league website, then just find a different, slightly less related domain name.
