    hello everyone
im starting an electronic business to sell gadgets like mp3,mp4 s etc.
and im thinking of using the word "pad" as part of my name brand, you think i can get in trouble for doing that??, i did a little research and found the word in other musical contexts like keyboard pad,so the word was being used in music way before the ipad came out, and its used widely in non musical context wordpad notepad, touchpad etc.. ,but its better safe than sorry, you think it be ok to use the word in my products?? or should i hold back??

As long as your products don't have anything in common with the iPad, you should be fine. "Pad" is just a word, and it isn't normally associated with Apple unless you place an "i" in front of it.

If you will notice, in the image below, Pad is part of an advertisement, right here on DigitalPoint... So, as mentioned, if you don't use trademarked terms like i-pad, you should be fine...

pad -- A thin, cushionlike mass of soft material used to fill, to give shape, or to protect against jarring, scraping, or other injury.

    It's a English word.

Use it wherever you want, just make sure you do not create a name like ipad, i-pad etc

I do not want to be rude but hey, haha, just think about it for a minute !

    common sense..

But it is a good thing to enquire and make sure no harm is done to you and others.

the word "pad" itself is not a brand, unless you blatantly use iPad, other than that you should be fine

Perryrose....dont be so quick jumping into conclusions...my fears have a solid base...one company was sued by apple because they used the word pod in one of their products
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11404886

and for what i know a "pod" is just an enclosure for a vegetable, so anyone can use it freely ehhh...think again

I think you should be fine. Like someone mentioned before, the word "pad" was not revolutionized by Apple. :) Good luck to you.
