Why not, put something like a hyphen to avoid the trademark issue. :D

Because a hyphen won't go around the trademark issue. Why do you think it would?

I bought a domain name called www.wherecanigetthenewiphone.com Yes, very long domain name, but well searched key terms. But I am not able to get an SSL because it has the name iPhone in it. I am to provide my Host company GoDaddy with proof that I have writen permission to use the trade mark term. So, I would guess that we can not actually use it.

Just curious: Would this name really be trademarked as iphone can also just mean I phone? Isn't it similar to just 'apple' - Apple can't sue someone for having a website about apples just because the domain is called something like 'theapple.com'?!

It essentially depends on context. Yet the more unique and/or famous the trademark, the more likely
many people are nonetheless going to associate it with its source. (which is what trademarks aim to
    do anyway...)

Iphone may seem or sound so common. Ask many people around, though, and you'll likely see they're
going to associate it with Apple's very famous Smart phone still.
