Can I use my current domain for a new Wordpress site?

Hello,

I currently have a website that was designed for us, but is not a template driven site (i.e. Wordpress, Joomla, etc).

I have just secured hosting for a WP site and installed a nice theme. It is currently hosted under a development domain.

Is it possible to use my current domain from my old website for my new Wordpress site? I want to retain my current PR and SERPs.

What do I do when I am ready to move my new site to a live environment? Is there a plug in that will help?

yes you can do that and it will not have any effect on your PR. Just to make sure that you will understand... you can host only one website on one domain name.

The next question is 'how' to do this? My new Wordpress site I am designing is with a different host. I am moving away from my current web host/designer. How much help do I need to ask from them? They are not always 'helpful'.

all the time when you get a new hosting account they offer to transfer your website for free (it is more like something like a freebee just to get a hook on you)
So what i will do first will be to ask them. If that is not working (push them hard if you can have a chat over the phone) then i would think to get someone to do the job (if you do not know). If interested i could give you some tips or where to look for it...

Thanks for the help.... my new hosting company is 2020Media here in the UK. They have been great so far....I asked them a lot of questions before I signed up and they responded fast and efficiently.

So....how does this work? I am going from a bespoke design to a Wordpress site.
