If a company uses "CCL.com" for a "Credit Card Loan" website, can the company register "CCL.com" ( which stands for Credit Card Loan) for a TM in the credit card loan business, or will the domain be seen as generic due to it's meaning? Thanks in advance, -Digip
AOL and IBM are so-called generic letters, but are also trademarks. Short answer to your question is yes. Longer answer is it depends on a variety of things.
For your example...yes it's very possible to TM CCL for the usage of credit card loans. You can't however TM "Credit Card Loan" since it's too descriptive. You could do a Service Mark (graphic) as well.
