    Shawn is correct. Meta tags have no effect, actually, at all really anymore. You can use them, but they won't really do anything.

    Agree, but only to an extend. Actually google quite often displays the meta description on the search results pages. Also, I have noticed that changing the meta description sometimes had an effect on which ads were showing, so it seems google does give it some weight. The meta keywords, however, I believe is completely without use these days.
