Can I use Canon camera as a webcam?

I have a Canon Powershot AS590 camera, I was wondering if I can use it as a webcam for MSN chats? I tried to just plug it in and switch it on, msn won't recognize any camera device. I only have the standard USD cable that came with the cam.

If it's possible to use it as a webcam, can you please tell me step by step how? I don't see a reason why it won't be possible. Thank you in advance!

 

I have not heard any one doing this, by the way why dont you play with this canon camera and why dont buy some cheap web cam

 

This can't be done b'coz the lens in the Web-cam are different as compared to digital camera's. The CMOS sensor is the thing which can't be changed inside the camera's. The digital cam can't be used as web-cam.

 

I wanted to know the answer to simialr question recently. I have a powershot camera and turned out I couldn't use it as a webcam.

So I bought a logitech quickcam pro 9000 - really good

 

I have a logitech quickcam, but thought i can get better quality with a 8Mpix cam.

anyway, thanks for your replies guys, looks like it's indeed impossible.

 

I also have cannon camera its really great work.

 

So far as I now, most of Digi-Cam cannot be used as web-cam.
