Hi, My laptop charger gave out yesterday and I am a college student who really needs a computer. Fortunqately, I am under warreny and requested a new one, but it won't be here for two weeks. Also fortunately, my roommate also has a VAIO and offered me to charge my computer with his. However, his computer is newer and has a more powerful charger. I was never good with electricity and was hoping someone could help me. The main Voltage number on both(I think input but I'm not sure) is 19.5, but the other one(I think output) is different. On mine, it's 37V and his is 41V. Additonally, his as 4.9A while mine is only 3.7. I am really worried about letting his charger burn out my battery or motherboard and don't want to risk anything, but I have also heard that the computer can manage to take what it needs and not worry about the rest. Can anyone tell me if it will be ok?
I'm pretty sure it should be okay. I've done it once, but it wasn't really for a long amount of time.
I am suggesting You Do not charger your laptop from different VAIO charger..may be your laptop charging ic Going to be damage and you will be in trouble because every charger have different amp... if the amp and voltage of the charger same then you can use...
I think you only can use another charger if charger socket to laptop have the same polarity voltage and same voltage output for laptop.Remember for check your input Voltage for your charger too.
I've used computers that have lost their charging cables with other charging cables and I've never had a problem. Do you know what the voltage of your last charger was? Look it up and check it against your roommate's. That should reassure you a bit.
