I am having a videos site... i started that just before 1 week.... i like to target a particular video...... i used google keywords research tools and i find a keyword.. it is free online music videos the problem is when i search the keyword with quotes..... "free online music videos" - 35,800 results........... without quotes......... free online music videos - 325,000,000 results........ and also, there are some big sites in the results,,, like Yahoo, AOL...... so can i target this keyword, or go with some other keywords..........
lol There will be thousands of site on that keyword. Try to find some more eaiser and unique keywords for your website.
This KW only received small amount of searches per month and the fact that it is highly competitive, it's gonna be a tough job for this to rank. I suggest you focus more on long-tailed keywords, most of these search terms has less competition but good amount of searches.
I wouldn't go for it either and for obvious resons: 1-too much competition for a long tail keyword that doesn't even get searched enough to justify the effort. 2-The commercial viability is low. I mean, there are ways to monetize traffic comming from people not looking to buy something, but at the level of traffic you would get... isn't worth the time. My2cents, Houcem

Regardless of how long the tail is. It's a matter of working hard and providing a better website than the current competition. Creating buzz and working like a blogging, content generating, linking, white hat SEO and viral media maniac in order to drive traffic and links. most of these keywords are very very competitive.....if i started working for link building for this keyword, i will surely get banned from google,,,,,, because i will build 100's of links daily for my new domain,.....
i strongly recommend not to target such competitive keywords, here is what i can recommend: Set two goals for keywords 1) short term goal and 2)long term goal in short term goal target least competitive keywords on which you can archive ranking withing 3-5 months, this will help you to increase traffic, authority in search engine and revenue too. once you start getting traffic move to long term goal where you can target such competitive keywords and can achieve top 10 ranking within 8-10 months if you did well and provide better user experience. all the best
