Hi, I am working with a IT company. My Company's site do not have good genuine back links. My question is that if i take link from the clients site (of different categories) to our site on the Footer section like this "Designed and mantained by company name" do Google will take it as spam or not. Or i can use micro-format to make sure that Google can take me as a designer or developer of the site.
you can do this but set the anchor text to your company name to keep your anchor diversity profile natural, and I would also suggest adding nofollow attribute to the links. After penguin 2.0 sitewide links in footers and sidebars with follow attribute are sketchy to big G
Is your client paying you a fair price for your services? You need to offer a discount or pay for the link. They haven't paid to advertise your company.
Only you can request your client to put your link in his or her website. Some clients put links mentioning where they got services...
What you say if i ask to use microformat and follow link towards my site. Still penguin take it as spam????
I would try to put myself in the same mindset of google. Is a dofollow link that passes PR in the footer something malicious? If I'm google I'd probably say yes, if its in the footer sitewide its likely not a very important or authoritative link if it was it would be in the content. As a general rule I would keep footer and sidebar links to nofollow, Though I suppose you could vary it up a little and make a small handful of them follow. I will say most of the problems I've seen stem from the latest refresh of penguin is due to sitewide footer and sidebar links with follow attribute.
No problem. anytime. My next question for you would be, now how do you plan to address the issue of still not having any good follow links? Take all the nofollow ones you can from those other sites you mentioned "Developed by Company Name" and compliment them with some good relevant in-content dofollow links.
That is correct, those links are not good much like links in the bottom of free wordpress themes. Google already punted them last year. http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4445558.htm Nigel
Hi Neha, I think you can put your link in footer section of client's site. But there are some limitations you should follow: Use brand name rather than keyword. It will be better if you make it nofollow. Otherwise, it might be spamming in the eye of Google.
You can take from your client site these type link but keep your company name as keyword in anchor text. Keyword using techniques are not good in this way.
Google will not detect it as spam as long as your website is related to the company's website. Another thing to consider is the approval of the company to use your link on their website
Nice question See it is good to use if you use your links as an anchor text on another website footer but only is the website is of 3 to 5 pages. It is because if you are using the Anchor text on the footer, the footer will be displayed on each and every page of that website and if it have aroud (10-1000) pages then Google penguin update will consider it as spam, because you do not earn that link. Same anchor text will get around (1000) baclinks from the same domain of your client will definitely be considered as a spam. I hope you can understand.
Well, why not ask your clients? And what their benefits of getting your link up on their sites??? You need first answer this question yourself otherwise I don't see a point
Hello, From my experience what i can say is that you can use the link in your clients footer text but use your company name as anchor text. Make the link no follow. But if there are other sections where there is some text, then it is always better to add your anchor text in that content page. Try to make the link in a natural way. Hope this will work.
As others said, nofollow only or else you will screw up your site's link profile and your client's. That won't affect your PR at all, only possibly allow you to have more human traffic if they visit the client's site.
