You just have to be sure to give credit to the original author. You can't pass off the articles as your own. If there's an author's box at the end of the article just include that with the article and you should be OK.

you'd be wiser to comply with the terms and conditions of the site you took the content from, obviously.

Firstly, read the terms of service on the site. It should tell you the requirements of using the content. Also make sure your source is truly an Article Directory - don't just assume that the content is meant to be shared.

Secondly, you and 500 or so others will most likely be doing the same thing. It's unlikely that using only duplicate content will make you much money. A good strategy is to only use those articles to jump start the site and occasionally when you don't have time to include fresh content. Otherwise, if you really want to make money from Adsense, you'll need original content.

    And, ASK, the writer!

How would you like it if somebody took your work?

    Well, there ya go.

Also, this (these writer(s) may want to submit more articles to your site if they know that you want to carry what they have now. So do keep that in mind.

I think quoting is fine, but cloning is bad. Anyone likes that you quote them, but if you do clone, it's like stealing.
