Hi, I'm just wondering if I could still get a good backlinks from the directories. Does it really help my site rank up or it will just affect the ranking? I'm open for a suggestion for the list of top directories that I might use. Thanks.
Yes, you can get backlinks from directories but it must be from high PR sites. You can get many directory sites from http://www.vmoptions.com/directory-list.php
It's always interesting to see who bites first on this question. Right answer but wrong condition. Throw high PR out of the equation. It's too easy to be bought or otherwise manipulated. Look for directories where the categorization is strictly kept. Look for directories where the titles are site names and not a string of keywords. Look for directories that have an actual description and not a string of keywords. In other words, only submit your site(s) if the directory is well-run.
Aside from directories there are many ways to build backlinks to your site and this method can provide you direct traffic from targeted visitors. Submit your site's content on Digg, Reddit, Delicious and other high pr bookmarking sites that can give you quality links in the long run.
I agree with user YMC: if a directory is well-run and updated with quality submissions, it can be a good way to build solid backlinks. Unfortunately all 'those' lists of directories are nothing more than repurposed junk. You must look for quality dirs, and submit to those ones by hand. I am doing some kind of 'quality list' of italian directories (that is my language and the country where I live and I work) on my personal site. The listed directories there are reviewed one by one, by hand. I usually submit my most important sites there and it is working out quite good.
Interesting. I take it thats setting up another site....setting you directory links to that and then link from buffer site to main site? Is that how that would work?
I can't speak for other directory owners...but I would delete any submission that linked to a "buffer" or pass-through site.
You can tell a high quality directory from a bad one just by going on the home page (they're fairly easy to spot!) Also check to see if the directory is listed on Google (you can do this by typing 'site' then the full URL of the directory. Now look for directories with a first page Google listing & avoid anyone's that are not on Page 1. As mentioned above, good directories will be regularly reviewed & edited to ensure only the best is displayed. Strict guidelines are usually a good indication of quality. Az
Yea that's how it would work. What I would do is pump up the buffer with natural outreach links first, then do the directory links if it fits in your timeline. Since the buffer site can be less branded, and with more interesting topics I think it will be quite easy for you.
Once again, it really depends. There are old and abandoned directories that are not worth to be submitted, and new and fresh directories worth submitting. I think a minimum of analysis must be done (PR, pages indexed, number of backlinks just to name a few) on every specifical directory before submitting.
You could also try the WordPress template footer link technique. You'd think something like that wouldn't work anymore but obviously it still does in some cases. I would not use this technique directly to your site.
As the link scheme's are closely monitored and taken care by big G, do think twice or thrice about having your link placed in any directory or paid link placement services.
