You mean your own product, or as an affiliate? If it's your own, then it's up to you what you want to do with it, but if you are an affiliate, then yes, you can use eBay for getting traffic. For example, creating classified ads with your hoplinks, etc
There have been some very successful affiliates that used ebay classifieds. Here is a dp post about one of them. Not sure if anything has changed on ebay regarding this tactic. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=583630&highlight=kabita
ebay banned the delivery of digital content but I know of at least one clickbank product i have seen selling on ebay it is called citizens legal source bankruptcy software and they got around it by sending out the software on cd. (http://citizencash.com) if you are an affiliate, listings won't work but classifieds work as a traffic generator ($9.95 a listing though) if you are a publisher, you could list on ebay by modifying your product to actually send out your digital content on a cd.
Ebay have banned ebooks software. You can seel if they are on a disc, you have to post disc to winning bidders.
What I am wondering is if people will still buy stuff if you send them by regular mail. An e-book for instance. IF I buy it I can instantly download it. If I see that they are going to send it by regular mail on a CD.... somehow I don`t like it that much any more..
Dark times over at eBay friend! As stated before by others, eBay changed it's policy earlier in the year so that anything that is digitally delivered is not really supposed to be listed unless by classified format. The thing about classified format is that it requires the buyer to take another step. They have to contact you and leave the "safe nest" of eBay to make a purchase. I used to be a powerseller of digital goods over at eBay and the non digital policy absolutely altered my model! I say altered but I really mean destroyed. If not for clickbank, adwords and my secret weapon for generating traffic on my own (not really secret, just lots of hard work and using other ppc engines), I would no longer have been able to afford my $4,000 monthly mortgage payment. It actually ended up being a blessing in disguise as I was making less and completely dependant on eBay. Now I have some diversity and am making three times as much as before. The thing about most eBay buyers is that they want to purchase on eBay directly either using Buy it Now or by winning an Auction. So for me at least, not being able to directly sell and call to action on eBay did not work. What a lot of sellers did and do, to get around the digital limitation is to ship a cd, and still make their product available by download. In theory you could just mail a letter with details on getting to the content as well. This would be a kind of grey area however, and would probably infuriate customers! The funny thing is that there are some sellers on eBay that are still selling and advertising straight digital download as an option. They do this at their own risk however. I actually tried this and got a few listings stopped and lost the fees for the listings. The other thing is that so many sellers and buyers have left eBay in response to some of their recent policy changes. Listings that I would run and get 500 visits for the auction duration were down to getting 150 when I jumped ship. All in all eBay is not the same place as it once was, but if you do have your own product (don't bootleg or sell someone else's without their permission, you can always ask Product Creators to JV to do this). Then it is still a place where you can get some additional exposure for your offerings at reasonable price. Personally I would put most of your effort into other areas, but that is just my 2 cents. Good luck!
