Can I search the source code of a website?

Basically is it possible using Google (or some other search engine) to search a site's source code for a string, and if so, how? Thanks for any help.

No, I don't think you can use any search engine to search through a website's source code. But you can develop or download a script to scrape whatever you want from a page.

Yeah use screen scaling and website downloaders, if you download the site in full, you can use google's desktop search to search for strings - google desktop search is a good tool for many needs and it's best to download entire sites for future reference regardless of size

if you mean the client side source ( like html, javascript ..etc ) yes you can see it and if you won you can spider it but if you mean server side source (php, asp , python , java ..etc ) you CAN'T cuz this code are executed on the server before being deployed to your browser and its the one who in some case will generate the hole client side source

yes, its possible using google's Code search engine application which is under Google Labs section.

however you may not be able to get some ones restricted source code. all you can get is the publicly posted source codes.

had you tried google crome just open the site on this browser and use tools for designers in tool bar of the browser you can have the coding of the site at the bottom of the page from there you can copy the stuff. But the main issue is that it will not show all the codes.

Google Chrome (or in any browser) --> RIGHT CLICK --> 'View Page Source' ....if there is no option from a right click, go to your browser's settings --> tools --> view source (CTRL+U in Chrome)
