I have accumulated weight in an account from referals. I currently run ads on the website in that account but am considering dropping those ads. That will create a condition where the system will recognise that ads are not active for that site but I will still have weight from referals. Will my ads in the account remain in rotation albeit at lower weight?
No because it won't validate. I was thinking about doing the same but it won't work like that. You have to actively give to get something back.
Thanks TOPS30 I am trying to preserve the weight I have accumulated from referals whilst dropping ads from this particular site. Do you know whether it would be possible to create another account for a website that runs ads and transfer the weight from this account (with referal weight) to the new one. It looks possible as the system allows the creation of a master account to where weight can be transferred but I would like to check that this would include the "referal weight" before I go ahead.
The only way I can think of is to make one subfolder with one page with ads so your account keeps validating. Put the base url as this folder and you'll keep the weight of the referrers and the ability to have ads from it.
Do you believe that it would be acceptable if this one page subfolder was not indexed and therefore by itself has zero weight - would the referal weight ensure the ads remain in rotation? And equally important would this be considered acceptable?
Yes, as long as its validated i.e. verified the ad is there then it should be fine no matter how low (even 0 I guess) the weight. But why not indexed? You might as well throw up a single page with some obscure word no one will ever search for hence never getting there.
This brings up a good point...traffic (or Alexa ranking) should be considered in the weight formula...in my opinion. Ad's run on a homepage and throught an entire site that has 1000 uniques a day should be worth more than let's say a sub-directory running ads with 2 uniques a day....ya know?
The trouble with that is that traffic and/or Alexa stats are too easily artificially inflated. If there were a way around the fraud that would happen with such a plan it would be great, but so far there isn't a way to block someone from artificially distorting their results.
How would traffic stats be verified? Theres no possible way. You can't go by Alexa as internet/marketing type sites would have a huge benefit.
I don't know. I know the system can check IP addresses presumably against the IP address at validation so it may be possible to change the domain in the account to another one on the same IP address. I believe the system would allow me to use a subdirectory and that is one option that would almost take this site out of the network. If that directory was not indexed then the site would be completely out of the network and I would be running my account on my referal weight alone. However, until/unless I hear that thats OK I am not going to do it. I am treading cautiously as I want to preserve my referal bonus particularly as I am about to gain significantly more referal bonuses. I know someone said earlier that if you don't run ads you shouldn't benefit from inbound ads. However, I am effectively running ads on my referer's websites! For now I have reduced the number of ads on the site in question from 5 to 1 and I'll see how that goes. PS I currently have > 10 sites in the network so its not as though there aren't options. I am about to bring a lot of sites into the network on a referal basis and I am trying to work out in advance how best to manage that weight. Ideally I would set up an account without a validated website for most flexibility but if TOPS30 is right then my referal weight needs to be in an account that also runs ads.
Can a single page created in a subfolder, not indexed be validated? I thought it had to be indexed to validate?
