You can register a domain without hosting. You can use GoDaddy or NameCheap. (Google for more information) :)

Yes thers no harm in doing that. Look out for from whom ou want to buy a domain. I preffer godaddy. Seek out if there are any discount codes or cuppons running. Create an account with them and directly buy it.
After buying see that your domain is locked. Go dady domains are locked as soon as some one buys them but some other domain reseller you need to lock our domains manually.

You can buy a domain anytime you wish from an independent domain registrar. There are tons of them in the market, but Godaddy and Namecheap are among the more reputed ones.

When you decide to put some content on the site, opt for hosting. Some hosting providers also allow you to register domains, but I'd advise you to keep both things separate.

You could buy domains anytime you wish. ( It should be available ). You could also go for a FREE hosting if you cant afford the hostings.

I recommend to buy a domain from http://www.GoDaddy.com and if you haven't got a verified PayPal account, Buy a domain from http://www.domainsite.com

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,
    Agni.

I recommend NameCheap. They never gave me any problems, and I have 38 domains with them. I would also like to say watch out for domain tasting. Be sure to register your domain right away or someone else will take it, such as if you checked to see if the domain is available, don't let it sit on that page to long or someone will register it. Sometimes the domain will be available again in a couple of days.
