I have just found a really good domain name with the .us extension that isn't taken. Am I allowed to register it if I don't live in the states? (I live overseas; New Zealand) I am not a US Citizen / Resident and read somewhere that you have to be. If not is there anyway around this? What are the consequences if I register it anyway? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
Nexus handles .us domain names. You should read their terms carefully. I do believe there are geographical restrictions, but I am not sure of the exact wording. EDIT: Went fishing. Here is something that might clear things up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.us .
Thanks for the help, Wikipedia says "Registrants of .us domains must be United States citizens, residents, or organizations, or a foreign entity with a presence in the United States." And I'm not entirely sure what the mean by the last bit. Does anyone else own .us sites, and lives overseas? Cheers
I just done a bit more reading and found this: 3. A foreign entity or organization that has a bona fide presence in the United States of America or any of its possession or territories that also (i) regularly engages in lawful activities (sales of goods or services or other business, commercial or non-commercial including not-for-profit activities) in the Unites States, or (ii) maintains an office or other property within the United States. Since I own a number of websites and generate sales for my American affiliate network's, does this mean justify owning a .us domain? Thanks
if you get caught they take the domain, even if you payed $70,000 (video.us). and a second time for 30k or whatever it was.
What crap... i am european and are able to register a .US Domain if i want to. 4 of the 300 domains i have are .US and are almost +2 years old.
