    Hi,

I'm getting ready to open up a free "wordpress" and "phpBB" hosting service. Both of these software products are free and open source. I would like to display their logos on my website, basically informing my users that our service uses the wordpress and phpBB software. Yet, both of their logos are trademarked. I have no problem having a statement at bottom of my page stating that the logos are trademarked by the owner of wordpress/pbpbb.

Can I post the logos on my page? If so, what statement should I put on bottom of my page?

    Regards,

    Wyatt

Your best bet is to contact them directly if you have any question as to whether they can be displayed.

Yes as long as you are using them in conjunction with a download link or a link back to where they can download the product. Otherwise, you should not use the logo without checking with them first.

If you are not sure, then just ask them.

If you dont ask them and they get upset that you have use their logo, the worst possible thing is they will ask you to remove them.

Yes, they could get pushy and get their lawyer to prove that the existence of their logos on your site has help the credibility of your site resulting in increased sales where they would sue you for damages but they would still have to prove that having the logos on your site has caused them some loss, and how they would prove that I dont know.

If your site makes next to money, no problem.

If your site makes lots of money then you can probably defend yourself with your own lawyer.

Cheapest option is to send them a nice polite humble email asking politely if they would mind if you used their logos.
