Can I Order Through Myself?

Can you make a purchase through CJ even if you are a publisher? Like if I am advertising this one company can I go through my own link and buy something, or will they run some check where they see my CJ Publishers account is the same as the order I just made?

It's not against the TOS. Most merchants don't have a problem with it. Why would they, a sale is a sale. The only ones I've really noticed having a problem with it are hosting merchants. With that you need to read the fine print of the affiliate agreement. And the only other merchant that comes to mind, is outside of CJ, Amazon.com. They'll reverse any purchases you make thru you own links sooner or later.

Agreed. The best way to find out for each individual merchant is simply to send them an email. Amazon is the only company I've had a problem with.

Trust is right - I've also tested frequently through my own links, via various merchants, and have never had a problem.

p.s. thought you'd have more posts here at DP, Trust, compared to ABW by now.. ;)

I would still check with the individual affiliates agreements to make sure they don't set their own separate guidelines.

I agree a sale is a sale.. the bigest thing i think is companies don't want you to use their affilaite programs like a rebate.. oh let me signup with this one cause i am ordering this widget. let me signup with this one cause i am ordering this etc... but most don't care as long as you are legitamitely buying :).

I did it once, but before it I sent a message to the merchant.
    Got appluse for the honesty

Anyway, this is the reason most merchants increase the minimum limit before you are entitled to get the check.

    Thanks for your kind words!

Honestly,I didn't do that on purpose,I clicked on my ads the time I joined cj.com and put up the ads on my site, just wanted to test if it worked. You know, the cookies remained in my computer, then I bought a host, hence i got the commission!:)

Do it some 10-20 times and you will get a warning for inflating traffic!

I really don't think this is any safer. Keep in mind that affiliate managers have access to all of your information in your CJ account, as well as all of information contained in your order. Masking your IP addresses seem like the least of your worries if you're trying to do this surreptitiously, though I think you're taking a huge risk by violating the TOS of both the advertiser and CJ. Rather than break the rules just work something out with the affiliate manager or find an affiliate program which sells comparable products and allows you to purchase through your own links.

I've heard that Hostgator doesn't permit this, but I know for sure that Dotster does. Here's a good example of what I was saying above; if one advertiser won't let you do it, find another that does.
