My question is pretty simple and straight forward

Can I open paypal account with a Debit card in India ??

I have been using my friends paypal accounts for quite a while its turning particular hectic to track all my transactions in them, I used to have a personal CC verified account with paypal until 2yrs ago, which I dis-continued due to my personal reasons. Earlier, only account holders from US had the option of opening an paypal account with the help of debit/savings account.

I don't use CC currently, as I feel no need for my current needs, I have an savings account with SBI - along with the debit card, so can I sign up for an paypal account with debit/savings account of SBI ??? So, that I can transfer funds directly to my savings account

Has the paypal been generous in allowing debit card/savings, a/c holders a chance to utilize the services ??

replies with some one with considerate knowledge on the above topic would be appreciated

PayPal used to accept Yuva card from SBI but not anymore after the implementation of Verified by Visa and Mastercard Securecode by RBI. Now you cannot use any of the Indian debit cards to verify PayPal unless you have a account in HDFC Bank then you can verify it by using NetSafe Virtual Prepaid cards

damn!!! Thx for the info sangeetbarua

Just for the info, if I use any of my friend's CC account to sign up, is it possible to add my savings account to paypal then ?? So, that I can withdraw funds directly to my account
Is it necessary for the paypal name and CC name to be same now ?? As I remember different names with my earlier account few yrs ago ? I want to know this b'coz I don't want checks/money to be sent with my friend's name, which will only increase my work even larger

Paypal is tightening up it's security day by day. Paypal checks whether the name on your account matches the name on your credit card or not. So there is no chance that you can use different names. That is why Paypal charges $1.95 and then credits it back to your account but you can definitely add your bank account to your friend's verified Paypal account to withdraw the funds. or else you can open a HDFC Bank account to verify Paypal using NetSafe.

You can use debit cards, but becareful because paypal will verify the details of the card to confirm that its yours and genuine.

As far as my knowledge you can't verify your indian paypal account with debit card. You need a valid Credit Card for that.

Paypal does not support verification using debit cards issued by Indian banks as it is practically impossible to get back expuse code, needed for completing the verification. One can do so... only using a credit card, as of now! :(

    so, in simple
    1. I need to get a CC - which I don't plan to in near future
    2. Need to have data matching both the paypal name and CC name, so again a disturbance, even if I get my friend's feed in there :(

actually I don't want to bring their accounts into my issues, I don't want them to feel un-comfortable sharing details.

I think I have to go in with my friend's account temporarily until I am able to find a suitable fix

I think you can open paypal without any card ;)
But for verified paypal account you need to have CC. I tried to be verified using DC but I was not able to do so.
