hi, I am a mortgage broker who wants to register a name......let say it was texasmortgageloan.com now if there is a site texasmortgageloans.com are there any legal problems? or are these generic? its not the name but the example is close enough
You can own any domain name you want as long as you do not say or act like you are that company "texasmortgageloans.com". First come first serve in the domain world... Get a cheap domain and site from domain-geek.com
I have looked into this and I think you are usually ok with generic and descriptive terms, unless they get pretty big, it’s meant to be pretty hard to trademark these sort of terms.
No problem to register this name. If you want, you can sell this domain at high rate, if those guys want to buy them
Wait, i really have a bad story for this, but not to scare you away. There such a funny (but serious case) in my country when SONY (www.sony.com) prosecute a webmaster (i don't really remember what domain exactly, but maybe it is mzsony.com) to an international lawyer with the accusation of using company image without permission. And guess what? Thousand of blogger and website master on my country oppose SONY. And i don't know how is the case now.
