    Hello Everybody,

I am new to forum & I was not able to find the correct session to post my thread. I think, I can ask this question here & I will get an suitable answer.

I have a Pc & I install windows 7 Pro (original copy) on it. Now I buy a new Laptop & I want to install that same OS on it. But I do not want to purchase new license for two PCs & I am ready to uninstall OS from my old PC.

So it means I just want to run only single copy of the OS with single serial key, I just want to switch it from old PC to my new Laptop.

Can someone please guide me that how I can make it possible.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jimmy

Well you would just need to de-activate it on the old PC, that's all. Either wipe the hard drive clean or deactivate the key from the Control Panel.

jeez man, you can use your copy of windows on as many p/c's as you feel like , you don't have to 'de-activate' anything:rolleyes:

yeah if the number of p.c's goes in thousands then MS can be bothered to block it:p

And this is a place I want to put my data on for hosting...

With Windows it's a little tricky. If it's OEM you can't switch the computer. The license is attached to that computer. Unfortunately MS doesn't provide "deauthorization" that I know about. They give you a limited number of installs (including on another PC) before you have to call Microsoft to activate it by phone. That has to do with enforcement (activation) not whether it is legal to use on PCs which, from what I know, it's like you said which is one at a time.

OEM's cannot be switched unless you a make image and use vm ware to install on another p.c , while on the retail disk no limit is mentioned but i have win 7 on 3 p.c's and 2 lap tops, i activated them online but on xp really don't remember i had to call for activation don't know after how many installs was it.

as far server editions go , and that is what used for hosting, server edition is only one for one server of course OS reinstalls can be done as many times but one key can only used for one server.

Microsoft doesn't allow it, unfortunately. If you call customer support and whine enough, they'll probably let you transfer it. Might as well try.

Your best bet is to call a support line and have them teach you all the tricks.

Install one license in many computers is illegal but many people did that especially when they own those computers.

If you have a Windows 7 retail version you can transfer that to a new PC without any problems, however if you have an OEM version (that came with the computer when you bought it) you cannot transfer it and you will have to use it solely on the original computer.
