Some of you may know that YouTube.com was just sold for a huge some of money $1.65billion dollars. Oh and in just 17 months.

I've got Swopper Shop and I believe if we could get enough users on it, some people would show some serious interest in purchasing it, so what I really need is a user base that can help it grow and market it on other sites, even use it to sell your services & products!

    swoppershop can be found here:

    http://www.swoppershop.com

help me become a billionaire :p I'll pay ya'll back, think of it as an investment ;)

site looks nice. I think if you are going to get a billion (like your thinking btw) you need to include US$ pricing on the 'Site Fees' section, as the US is such a big market.
Also, Without the 'Swop' feature, you are competing directly with eBay, and that is gonna be hard. I could see no link to the swop area, so that may need to be added to the navigation.

Like I said though, the site looks nice, I'll keep an eye on it.

even top affiliate networks these days are not worth 1 billion usd . To hit billion you have to top millions of affiliates /ecommerce companies etc etc .. but if you want to make some serious money . all you need to do is hire employees and act as corporate . To hit billions i believe investment worth millions is required .....

It's true, any "billion dollar" site is going to have to at least include the US (if not primarily target)

I can add that, and for the swap, it's basically when you sell something you can choose to swap, i think i should change the link to sell/swop :D
As for the us, but I'm UK based...what should i target first? US or UK?

What would be the revenue source for your swoppershop site?

Advertising? A percentage of transactions? Paid membership?

It's not impossible to achieve your billion-dollar goal, but you may have to do it ten times better than eBay.

Just look at Google. How Google dethroned Yahoo (which was the King back in the 90's) was because it was simpler, better, faster. It offered nothing new, just better results.

That's one route to go - the Route of Dethronement. Another way is more harmonious, symbiotic. Think of a non-competitive way you can complement the current big players in this industry.

I would work on redesigning the site and making it a bit easier to use. Pages are very busy, with lots of information potentially overloading the users.

I came to the site and didn't really know where to go - and I don't immediately see any signs of swapping?

How are you promoting the site (other than in IM forums) ?

You're right I need to add how to swap and change some tabs, I will do that tonight. :)

I'm not too sure about the busy thing cas unfortunately, we're not busy yet :p (lame joke i know lol)

but the site is only busy with information because of the categories normally if it was fully peopel would straight off, search for what they require and get results like:
    http://www.swoppershop.com/Computing,category,400,parent,categories

As for promotion, atm none, I am waiting for the business angel to get back to me and then our target market is universities and colleges. (student market)

There are no basic listing fees, it is free to list, the revenue would come from people that wish to highlight there items and those additional purchases.

It will be pay as you go, not membership or anything.

lol, a long way till we dethrown ebay, but it would be nice to get a chunk of the market, :D, I think by offering this feature we should get it off to a good start.

You have a nice looking site there.

Although Youtube sold for 1.65billion, I don't think it took millions of pounds to make it have that much of a userbase.

The main way I believe they got there was mainly down to viral marketing.

Youtube hit 1.65 billion because it was a first of a site, it developed a following, and it was very viral.

I'd say one of the first things you should do is try and purchase the domain swappershop.com. As noted, viral marketing is a key feature to success of some of these billion dollar websites and if people are hearing "Swopper Shop dot com" I can guarantee that a majority of people will miss your website completely.

Lets not kid ourselves. Youtube got $1.65 billion because they made it really easy for people to pirate copywritten content, and were able to convince media shops to play nice with them rather than sue them (a la Napster days)
