so it could be taken away from me, how do others have "unofficial" star wars blog etc so if i want to blog about my favorite movies I can't ever use the words star wars
You will most likely have it taken down unless you put a disclaimer in the footer explaining your not affiliated with Star Wars. My advice would be to contact them and ask them if it would be alright.
Sure you can have a star wars blog..Its up to you to SEO it..thats the only problem about that, and getting more traffic to your blog..
Goes to show some people still aren't aware, although it's understandable. As Malmsteen said, mnymkr, you can but run the risk of losing it. Trademark disputes (potential ones, anyway) are practically among the things we ought to know nowadays, so feel free to look that one up. Whether George Lucas will go after everyone else using Star Wars or any of his intellectual property in their domain names or so is up to him to decide. If anything, try not to put any hint of commercial use (even ads) in your site if you choose to proceed with what you're asking about. And no, having a disclaimer on your site, especially if it shows ads or so, isn't going to put the Force on your side.
You'll run the same risk with a "Star Wars" domain name as you would with a celebrity domain name. Odds are nothing will happen, but if your website does get "huge" then some greedy, wealthy SOB just might find it worth his time.
if you really want to be thorough check with an lawyer can be costly but if you want to be 100% sure that's the only way.
You can make a fan blog about stars wars with out a problem !!! You are not a concurrent of them, you only make promotion And free promotion is always good ^^
Wrong. Many a site has been sued for giving "free promotion" - and the OP has commercial intent for the site, which makes liability a real concern. The problem isn't having Star Wars blog, it's putting a trademark in a domain name.
Technically it can be taken away from you at any point. However, Lucasfilm is well known for being ok with fan sites for Star Wars, so it's kind of a gamble. Maybe you can be safe and use "SW" in your domain name instead.
OK, but take SW in place of Starwars, than you don't have there name in your domain so they don't have the right to take it from you But i don't think Star Wars will take your domain they are grown up (I think) not such as google ! They are little babies who always want there way
Or you can try and use some other obvious reference from the Star Wars films. Something like "Cloud City" or "Millenium" you could get away with, not sure you could get away with "Millenium Falcon" or "Tattoine". But there is probably less chance of some lawyers spotting you if you used something a bit left field that is still obvious to star wars fans.
And you'd cry like a baby if you don't have your way, too? That's why it helps to ask permission, or try to work out something that might benefit both people. It's win-win, and it lessens the chance of ill will.
There not little babies who cry. Put yourself in there shoes. Without asking, you will wind up taken to court.
