Im using xeon server i m doubtfull either it is utilized fully or im just wasting money for this costly server

when ever i check the higher load so ever was below 0.70

and memory usage is also below 70%

i want that i get an alert email when my server load jumps to 1.00 or memory jumps to 85%

as im doubtfull that server load may reached here but i m not sure at which time it is using max resources.

Is there any easy way to get informed.

    Thanks in advance

well server load at 1.00 is quite normal for free :D and regarding the memory usage you have to optimize your apache, same problem was happening with me but softlayer system admin optimized apache and now i am having memory usage not above 30 %. So better would be to go for a server management company to optimize it for you.

why are you so worried about load above 1.00, if its over 5.00 , ill worry about that, but server loads are usually caused by badly coded scripts and long mysql queries, if your scripts and mysql are optimized excessive http requests (high traffic) could cause your apache to restart.

your server would probably use alot of server resources on peak hours, so it is best to check on these times , configuring your apache prefork settings can also increase your speed drastically, i hope i can provide you an optimized configuration for the prefork settings however it will depend on your server specs. it is best to ask your web hosting company or your server manager about that. :)

i think i was not clear with my question

Well the question i was trying to ask was that i think that the current sever is not my requirement i should have to degrade to low cost server bcoz i think the server usage is very minimum .

i want to get an alert email when it gets loaded to 1.00 or above, i wana check either it hits 1.00 or not , if not i will think of degrading.
