Its either the OP editing the thread or me replying in the wrong thread!

You can definitely make money with a static site. However, you might need more articles than 10-12. I'd aim at 20+.

Static sites are definitely becoming less and less favored by Google search. If no activity, eventually Google will demote the site off front page and you can say good riddance to those earnings.

    That is from my experience.

That's not true. For one, with some topics there isn't really that much to write that you can keep on publishing new posts.

Besides, http://www.perfectpaws.com/ has not seen an update in a decade and it's still in the top of Google search for the most important searches related to dog training today.

In my experience, Google doesn't like tiny sites (sites with only something like 15 posts), however, if your static site has over 40 content rich pages, you are good.

I almost agree, with the exception of the bit about size. I have a couple of sites that are only 5 pages - with two of them being the privacy policy & contact page - that hold number one spot on Google for the keywords targeted & have done for a long time. Google have got much better at recognizing quality - the three content pages on these sites answer the related search query completely & as a result they rank well.

There has been a fair bit of talk about the importance of contact & privacy policy pages with Google looking more towards ranking factors other than backlinks - from my own experience they become massively important when ranking small sites like the ones I've mentioned. I've tried a couple of sites without these pages and they've bombed, a big site seems to be able to do ok without them but I think PP & contact pages are a very good way to establish a bit of authority for a site with only a handful of pages.

EddieC, I'd like your post if I'd know how.

Also, if anyone fails to rank a static site, he/she could simply add a blog page to the website and write about something related to the topic of the website every now and then.

The blog posts don't have to target any keywords or anything.
