Can I earn a living out of web designing?

I'm not a web designer, but I did some for friends and some information sites, which by the way are personal projects of mine. So, I don't consider myself a web designer. I call myself a writer because it's through writing that I earn a living :p

Enough of the litany here, he he.., I would like you to review this site that I did for a friend. Well, actually I do belong with the group and I volunteered (shameless, am I?) to do the site for them. And viola, here it is:

    Web Content Provider

I also would like you to review this page, since we will fill the site with articles on a regular basis, I would like to know if my default design for articles looks good to you. Here goes: free articles

Tell me what you think. If it's good, do you think I can earn a living out of designing? Don't worry if you say dream on; it won't hurt me a bit

    *Ouch*

It is not that easy, too many out there at rock bottom prices, also template sellers will take out another piece of your pie. I should say being a content provider if you can write well, built up a decent web site and earn through Adsense etc will be an easier way.

It looks like you have just used a template, it doesnt look unique. I give it 5 out of 10.

Looks more like WordPress. Have to wonder if it isn't just an attempt to get some traffic. The frontpage and the article are using the same layout. So which part of it did you actually code?

Hey, everything in there is written from scratch. Didn't use any template. I use an snews script for the cms. Small sized script. The font, the behavior of links, even the tiniest <hr>, they are all css and I've written them. Even the rollover images are css. The only thing that's not mine is the dropdown (contract-collapse) javascript on the portofolio page. Borrowed it from dynamicdrive.

Your web designing are good but like gold is not shinny at start but refining it makes it shiny. Follow me. I would give it 7/10

I am not a designer but I would like to mention there are loads of designers and I must say good ones too and so, it won't be that easy to make a living by designing alone. It will be good if you indulge yourself in other streams as well. That being said, nothing is easy and theres no free money and you need to work hard !

Btw, I like the design. Clean and simple.
