Can I decrease minimum bid by adding ad varations?

    I recently started with adwords and I was just wondering. Can I decrease a minimum bid for certain keyword by adding new ad variation better optimized for it? Or the prices are set only based on first ad I create and the landing page?
    And if it is possible how long would it take after adding a new ad for a minimum bid to decrease.
