Can I change/customize the search bar?

I wonder whether I can customized the search bar so that the word "google search" can become "search" to cut down some space.

yes ofcourse u can u just need to edit the ad code or customize it on adsense account

You cannot directly edit the AdSense for search code. Read the above link. It's an article I wrote for users that want to be able to customize. If you know basic HTML, you should be fine.
