Hi all, First I'll explain my situation: I'm looking to buy a website(don't want to mention that site name). It is owned by someone. It is going to expire 10th of this month. My question is: Is it possible to purchase that domain name on 11th of this month?, if that person not renew his domain? Looking for your answers!
No - I believe there's a 60 day time period if the domain expires. During that time, everyone and their mother will be bidding to get it through backorders if it's a good domain.
11th it will be just expired not released to public. u need to watch the status of that domain in whois. if it enters to pending delete it will be available after 5days of that status change. owner have some 30-35 days to renew after expiry date and he can renew after 35 days too but it may cost him around 80$ ( according to their registrars it may vary)
If the domain is registerd at GoDaddy I've heard of guys buying the domain names after the expiration date through their marketplace.
As far as I am aware, the owner is given the grace period of 30 days to renew his domain and only after failing of the same, the concerned name is then released for general mass for purchase! Regards, RightMan
From your answers, I can understand I've to wait for 30 days more to catch that domain name. I think its big time for me. Let me wait, because its my dream to get that site. Actually that website doesn't have any contents. Hope that person leave that domain. Thanks for your valuable answers.
It's actually even more than at. I just went through this, and all said and done it took about 75 days. The domain will go from "expired" to "redemption period" to "locked". You have to wait 5 days after the domain enters the locked state, and then you can grab it. It was a royal PITA, but I finally got it!
Yup...overall your chances of getting it are extremely slim, unless nobody on earth has noticed it but you.
How do you know the owner of the domain won't renew it on or before the 10th? A lot of domain names are set up to auto renew.
http://www.icann.org/en/registrars/gtld-lifecycle.htm This should help understanding the life cycle of a domain Thanks, Vijay
As I already told that domain has no content. Some domains using auto renew. But those site will display some information like( buy this domain or ads ), but this site is not displaying anything for last 8 months around. So that person won't renew that person, I believe.
Ya, I'm with freenet. Get the whois data and email, call, snail mail (whatever it takes) to work out a deal with the owner. If it's a domain that might generate competition when it gets released, use Pool.com if you want it bad enough ($60 min).
No way, if he does that, the owner will absolutely renew the domain so that he can wheel and deal with you. And that will probably get expensive. A backorder service is up to you, but if you think the domain isn't being hunted by anyone else, you can try your luck by hand. Keep us posted!
That's why it "depends". If it's a super great domain, I'd rather deal with 1 current owner than 1,000 grabbers.
For those interested, I wrote a brief blog post explaining how the whole expired domain name process works.. Check it out: http://www.zanderchance.com/2010/02/08/how-to-catch-an-expired-domain/
