Can I be penalized if my site is hosted on an IP that is shared ...?

Hi,
Can my site be penalized if its hosted on a virtual server, and its IP address is the same as a lot of other domains?

Im asking this question, to see if I should buy a dedicated server for my new site. Im currently buying a lot of articles that are costing a lot of money, to build up a lot of content and wouldnt like to destroy my rankings just because I wanted to save some money.

no penalty for using a shared host, same IP. This only becomes an issue if the same IP is used to create links as they look like spam from the same address.

 

In other words, as long as the sites on the same IPs are not linking to each others, everything should be fine, right?

my websites on the same ip, link to each other. my websites still fine with PR 4 and 5

 

Yes in extreme circumstances then you can suffer if a site on the same IP is banned from Google. It's always a good idea to get your own IP so you know there are no spam sites sharing it with you.
