hi, i have a established blog, getting about 3000 uniques a day views to the index blog page. those visitors are 80% from google search engine, and im on the first and second pages of 4000 queries.
now i want to improve this, and i have a question.
can i be on the 1st and 2nd position of about 50 keywords? or do i have to choose to target just about 10 or something?

anyway, im just getting about 200 uniques a day from yahoo search engine, i think its because my content its not very keyword dense.

google only allows you to be on top for 10 searches, it is only fair! ...just kidding.

You can be on top of as many searches as you can. More search terms just require more work.

all is good, a typical correct SEO campaign usually targets a minimum of 100 key phrases and 50 2 worded KW. all because of Google dances and Google "human intervention penalties" we have to work hard this way.

You should make sure to SEO pages for each term to help. You can do as many as you want as long as it is all unique content

You can and that will be much effort to make it. If you achieve to have site links on google, you are closer to more trusted by google.

Wikipedia is top for hundreds of words.
Often on the strength of it's own internal links.
That does mean to be top for loads of words you're likely to be competing with it :-(

wow! I got infraction for my above post, anonymous offcourse. reason: rudeness and hatred found in the post. Common if someone want to give infraction (don't mind them if for valid reason) atleast have some gutts to put your name there too. Not going to bite back but I do wanna know who I offend so I'd be more careful in the future.

I track my keywords that (per Wordtracker) receive 25 or more searches daily. I have 31 of those on Google's first page, but only four of them in the #1 or #2 spot that you are asking about. That's after about four years of ongoing SEO.

My personal conclusion (subject to others' differing experiences) is that it's not too difficult to get a bunch of KWs to Google's top ten. But it's not easy to get reasonably competitive KWs into the #1 or #2 spots.

P.S. It's easy to get noncompetitive keywords up to #1 or #2. To check that out for your website, try this: copy a random sentence fragment from your home page and paste it into a Google search box. If that sentence fragment has fairly unique wording, and your page is indexed, you'll probably score #1 in Google. But that means very little, since probably no one is searching for the precise wording of that random sentence fragment.

I there any way to find out which keyword your site is indexed?
I wish to have a program that can bring me which keyword you are listed on, and the rank.

I agree. If you want to really be effective with your site, then optimize for related keywords first. Then, start adding content that will specifically target the the more searched for keywords. The internal linking from those pages will help your others.

i think you can be the first for every word in the world for google.

First, you need to buy over google though

it can be done, but like others said there are a range of factors to consider,

    1) how competitive the keywords are that you are targetting - the more competitive the harder it becomes!
    2) the structure of your site and its authority in your chosen area - if newly established then a lot of work
    3) quality of backlinks and their naturalisation to your site - keep it natural and let people naturally link to you and it helps improve positions no end!
    4) relative content on chosen pages and page structure - are the pages you are targetting set up for the keywords? does the content match, does it verify to google what the page is really about, have you used the correct H tags throughout? onpage optimisation is as much a factor

Keep writing daily, unique content and let the site grow organically, then when you discover keywords that work, work harder on improving those pages related and linking to those words and hopefully over time google will naturally lift your pages to the number 1 and 2 positions if it is relative!
