If the keyword I was going for was...

    Washing Kitchen Tops.

And I have my domain as thebestwashingkitchentopstoolsever.com

Would google be able to pick out the relevant keywords in the domain and give me the appropriate SEO bonuses.

Hypothetical example of course, thanks in advance.

Yes they can. But don't make your domain name look that spammy.

    Thanks, here's a follow up.

What if the keyword was Birds and Kitchen Tops.

    Which domain would be better?

    birdsandkitchentops.com or birdskitchentops.com.

I always prefer shorter domains, but would having an and in there make an SEO difference?

    Thanks.

yeah google can read all forms of stuck together words (within reason), rather interestingly and not common place knowledge is that google also recognises commonly used accronyms and abbreviations. A few sites have been able to leverage this to their advantage.

A prime example is di.fm [digitally imported] - they rank 1 for di and digitally imported, the major piece of google insight here is that if you google di you'll see that the term "digitally imported" is highlighted by google in bold.

Yeah google can read such words. You can see that in search results, where google show keywords in dark blue color.

I dont think having the word "and" inside the domain name will make a different, from an SEO point of view. Usually when doing a search in google and you type in "hotels in London", the "in" will be dismissed, and google will search and show results for the words "hotels" and "London". I would assume the case would be the same with regards to a domain name.
