Can Facebook be useful for SEO?

My web site has a link to my group in Facebook. I see that Facebook discussions are indexed very well, and sometimes I put links to my site pages from it ( not in a spam way, only links to the information that can be useful ), but my question is: is it useful for my site, i do not mean traffic,( yes I can get traffic if I send messages to the members with links to my website, but i am not interested in it,) all i need is better positions in google and traffic from him....so will my facebook group help it? or does facebook use redirection that do not give any weight to the links?

Facebook offers nofollow for links, so it wouldnt help you in your SERP but it sure would help you with pulling in traffic.

Yep, I have noticed Facebook appearing more in the results, perhaps its because they have tweaked something to allow the bots in more?

Nope. no SEO value in facebook as it's links are nofollow. You can only hope for direct traffic from your facebook friends.

When you post in facebook, its noflow. No folow means its useless for you. One more thing which I don't like and that is you only make frd geographically....

Using facebook can really do brng you massive traffic on you site but they don't have a follow link feature so SEO may not be really possible for facebook.

But if it's traffic that you want, then yes, facebook is a big help.

I think FB is a great option but I don't pay attention to the ads too much.

In the new caffeine algo, the facebook tag pages are going to be big hits when it comes to SEO -- if you make your pages public and build links to your facebook pages/profiles, then facebook is also very advantageous for SEO.

Use Squidoo and other sites for link building and check out blackhatworld.com if you would like.

Facebook will not help your SE rankings. It can be a good source of traffic but it cannot get you backlinks. Hope this helps..

Facebook tag pages will =o) and the group pages as well including the Facebook pages and app pages. They all pass link value if they are from the author -- comment links are worthless

Well considering Facebook has over 10 million people on it! I think you should just try it and see. Like people have said above, FB comes up in google searches at the top but I would be interested to see if this would work in bumping your group oage up! Goodluck
