    Hi Guys,

I just bought a domain name (to move my wordpress blog here).
I guess now i need hosting space to begin ??

I dont want to buy hosting space from the same guys where i bought domain name. Is it possible to buy hosting space from some other service provider and still use my same domain name purchased from the other ?

    Thanks

Yes, in fact it's encouraged - never buy a domain as part of a hosting package because there's a higher chance of losing it when you move hosts.

What you need to do is get a host then change your domains name servers to point to your hosts.

I had problems with hosts that register domain names. I moved hosts and had really problems for them to transfer ownership of domain to me.

So, make your hosting and your domains two different things.

Whenever you need to move hosts, or add a new domain to the same hosting account just point the name servers to the new place. Give it a few hours and everything will be running.

    Hi Buddy,
All you need to do is:

    1. Get a hosting account from a hosting provider.
    2. The web host will provide you with 2 or 3 name servers. Note them down.
    3. Go to DNS management section of your domain registrar(where you purchased the domain) account.
    4. Change the name servers to the one provided by your web host.
    5. It may take upto 48 hrs for you to be able to see that the domain name is actually pointing to your hosting account. Have patience.

And here's some suggestions regarding choosing a webhost:

I have tried many hosting companies. Every too often it so happens that many not-so-reputed hosting companies come over, give great offers, and then when they are not able to continue they sell their company out to other hosting companies. Infact, that is the motivation behind many hosting companies. Then a lot of troubles ahead for the website owners.

I would suggest you go with a reputed name in the industry. Recently I am hosting my sites at Hostgators. I am very happy with them. If you want to try this host risk free, opt for their "baby plan" and use the coupon code "freemonth" on this link, and you can try them for a month for just $0.01.

Believe me, they are really good.

Yes you can and always make a habit of registering your domain name and hosts account separately. They might hold your domain name hostage if you decide to switch host.
