I would say that the majority of webmasters would agree that the co-op does not get penalized by Google or any other SEs. It is just that link churning (rotating ads) are not considered as important to Google as permanent links. Google gives very little weight to rotating links in their ranking algo. I am pretty sure that as of now they are not penalized, however that doesn't mean that they won't be in the future. And that article is out of date, the co-op now offers static ads as well as 50/50 (stating + dynamic).

There are some circumstances of course where you can get penalized. Say you have a huge amount of weight and you gain 100,000s of backlinks in a day or something crazy like that. That might trigger some red flags at Google.

Thanks - that's pretty much what I thought.

Can you point me to where I can find the static ads - I am signed up and everything is working, but I am only seeing banner and text ads.

    ;)

If you don't already, you will need to upload the latest version of ad_network.php and on your account setup you can choose "Display As:" and select Static Only.

I am getting more then 5000+ views for my ads (setup in co-op) regulalry, do you recommend me changing to static links only ?

I am using 50/50 Settings currently.
