I have been hearing a lot of things about myspace. Although i understood about digg but still cant understand this myspace thingy. Any info on this??
User registers. User has own web page. User uploads pictures. User invites people to become "friends" User leaves messages for friends. It's similar to facebook & friendster. Social networking membership based website.
SO how does it actually work. I see it as, many people having their own websites, but how do they connect. What will happen after i join myspace OR what do i do after joining it? Charles answer is not clear to me. Why are people crazy about it? And how does it help a marketer? Sorry for asking too many questions but i am really intrigued after seeing so much hype and hysteria around it
People don't have their own websites, just their own pages. It's the 21stC version of geocities with less flexibility.
They have a network of people. They have a search/browse button to find people in your area locally. You can search by city or zip code & specifiy how far they are away from you. (IE. Within 15 miles) People are crazy about it because you can make new friends, it's human life!
It started out by being publicized by a few celebrities/bands. They joined the site to pick up exposure for themselves as well. The main basis around creating myspace was for "any" band to be able to spread their music. That's how it started out. Now millions of people have basicly started a softcore party on it. After that old fox guy bought it for its advertising possibilities, you have to question Tom's sole intent. Whether he really did start it for the music he so loves, or just a guy who lucked out with alot of bored teenagers. Basicly after you sign-up, you can edit your profile and add friends. You can search by friends or invite people that you already know to join myspace. You can make a band page if you have your own band. Basicly you can chat with people all around the world no matter what time it is. They also have groups where you can discuss certain topics, i.e music, poetry, gardening, sex, religion. If you want to have a fun experiment, get a plain white t-shirt, and write What's your myspace url? on the front of it. Then head out to the mall and see how many people actually devote their time to making friends on it.
Its sounds so much like orkut of google to me. Without a webpage of course. Now i am also getting hold of what social bookmarking means. Perhaps it is to do with the links in these profiles if i am right. BTW thanks to everone for replies
Okay, go to myspace.com and click on the "register" button and set up an account. Search for your friends and have them add you to their friend's list. Be prepared to get addicted.

No i was just curious. I just opened a myspace account after reading this thread and i have put my settings as private
Now i need to know what myspace layout is about?? how do i change that??. I spent a little time playing around with the links but could'nt find out how to do that. Any answers ?? And also what are generators? I hope am not asking too many questions again .
