Can anyone solve my confusion regarding backlink?

    I am using sitepro's link checker tool..
    I an getting report that I have got back links which are 404...
    can any one olz tell me what are the effects of getting backlink which are 404?

    I would assume it would be bad as you are linking to a page that does not exist.

    You can set up 301 redirect via htaccess to point them to the correct page and save your link juice.

    no effect, since ur tools is telling you that he links doesn't exist anymore, since the page itself doesn't exist.

    you should check every web you want to get link from it. my advice is to see page rank of the site. you can check that from google toolbar. if the bar is grey don't link to this web
