Like the title says, is anyone using/offering an online storage service as a back up. How secure are they?
How much space do you need, could you use a 2GB GMail account (think individual attachements have a max size of 10MB though)
You can even intergrate it into windows: http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm I've never tried that though
Hey, that's great. I haven't been using my gmail so that facility went right past me. DIO your link looks really interesting but seems every time Google makes a change the tool is likely to fail to connect. The intro even says that there is no guarantee that it will continue to work so while I think this is one to watch I would not want to use it yet. DCT how is your three month sabbatical working out?
Pretty good thanks, coming to the end of Month 2 now. I'll certainly be quiting work early next year. I'll have to sell my house to raise a bit of cash but once I have a firm offer I'll resign and temporarily downsize.
Email accounts can’t be used efficiently for online storage, look into this online storage service. It has applications which will directly map your online storage space as a local drive. You can drag and drop, open the files work on it and save it as usual. You will feel as if you were working on your local folder. Further using the web interface, you can access your data from anywhere and you have options to share your data securely with your friends. I use it personally and have recommended it to many friends and business partners. ibackup.com
I use this tool and works really great. Once installed it appears as Gmail Drive in your Windows Control Panel. Double click and it prompts you for your Gmail username and password, the rest a piece of cake and the files appear in your Gmail Inbox as attached file sent by GMail Drive There is a number of online storage solutions such as xdrive but also get shell account. This is a like a virtual private server, very rudimentary but serving as storage facility if you want (most of such services allow to do that and even run IRC)
