Can anyone recommend an e-commerce method for my shop?

I am setting up an online shop as part of an existing website. I want to sell just a few products - about 3 - so I don't want to have a big, complicated shop interface like you usually get with packages such as osCommerce or Zen Cart.

Is there an e-commerce package that would suit such a small, simple shop? Or would it be better if I manually programmed the shop myself?

Also, I may want to sell e-books in the future but I've not sold this kind of thing before - do packages like osCommerce and Zen Cart allow this? If not, what would be the best method of selling these kinds of product?

    Thanks for your time

If u want a customised site based on your requirements its better to build a new one based on ur needs. But u can also take a look at a simple shopping cart solution called Cart97 PRO

X-Cart is great and has hundreds of modules if you some day want to expand it.

    It's expensive though - either $229 or $575! Not a feasible option if you're on a budget.

They also have LiteCommerce available for $109, this would work also.. You can try the free trial for a month to see if if fits your demands. I have not tried this one yet but I would imagine if x-cart built it then its a pretty good product. :D

If you can't afford a decent cart you might want to just consider using a 3rd party processor like Paypal (although I don't like paypal). An SSL certificate and setting up the merchant account and gateway will cost you additional funds &/or time if you're setting up a real cart.

    Hi Gingerbreadweb

When you mention digital goods as a possible future expansion, the shopping cart you choose should have that capability. OsCommerce can be modified to present just a handful of products and still look very professional. The reason I mention osCommerce is because it has the capability of selling digital downloads. HERE is an example of an osCommerce installation with just a few products that was designed to be very easily integrated into an existing website.

If you have an interest in this sort of set up, PM me.

Does it come with this functionality built-in? Or is it an add-on? I figure it's possible to sell digital items already - but you would have to manually e-mail the products to the customers when you receive an order...
