Can anyone recommend a hosted shopping cart solution for someone not so tech savvy?

A friend of mine has asked me about setting up a store online, but I don't really have the time to help her manage a website and handle updating a content management system or teaching her how to use one.

It doesn't have to be anything super fancy, she needs a user-friendly online store solution for her business that won't require a lot of advanced skills.

Her business already exists, she is just looking to take some of the inventory and make it available online.

She will personally be delivering the products, they will only be sold locally.

She may take payment online or perhaps at delivery depending on what is easier, and if she can do it online easily with PayPal or something.

Does anyone have any recommendations I can give her?

Most reputable hosting companies offer an easy site builder with basic hosting. You can also add a simple shopping cart. One thing I would highly recommend in this case is that you make sure that the system has good instructions and support. If she is a novice she can pick it up quickly but she may need some hand holding and she will definitely have a few questions.

Was going to say the same thing. Magento is probably the best "off the shelf" shopping cart at present.

I would recommend one of the big 3 hosted shopping carts. They are easy to use and maintain especially for people new to ecommerce and will help you to learn alot.

    bigcommerce.com
    3dcart.com
    volusion.com

My latest online stores have been Wordpress blogs using the paid plugin WP-eStore from http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com. I found the store is to install and configure plus great help from their support forum. The plugin handles both physical and digital products.

Paypal is one of the payment processors including in the plugin.

I'd recommend Miscake Stores - hosted e-commerce solution. You can create store very easily, also they provide good support for free. For example support team can help you upload products or customize your site design.
