Can anyone recommend a good (Free) HTML Editor?

I usually use Adobe's Dreamweaver but my clients are wanting to edit their own webpages. Does anyone know of any free HTML editor that clients can use to upadate their own site without messing up the coding format.

MS Frontpage is horrible and notepad is to unintelligible.

Any input would be much appreciated.

    Pep!

    Hi,
Thats messy. I designed a html editor for a website where the client logs in via http and they get to edit their pages as they requested, however they dont know html. Glad I made it backup a file everytime they clicked the edit button. Had to restore some files 15 or so times hehe. Coffee Cup is free. I haven't ever used it as I do all html in notepad. the site is coffeecup.com/free-editor/ and claims to be free, however they do ask that you provide an email address. The cost of free is SPAM so maybe make a catchall email address if you're able to. An email address that you willnever check :)

    Hi,
I stopped using frontpage when it would move my </form> tag or add a new one whenever it wanted to. With forms they leave a whitepace underneath them. I learned that by adding the <form> and </form> tags outside a cell like <form><td></td></form> the whitespace disappears. Frontpage always wants the form tags inside the cell. Not sure why, but if it doesn't see the </form> tag inside of a cell it will add it inside of a cell leaving you with multiple </form> tags. It's really the only issue I had with it but I figured since I had to check the code and fix it manually I may as well create the code manually so everything is where I want it, and left where I put it.

I have to admit I haven't used the latest versions as thoroughly as I should.

I'm speaking from several bad experiences I had with earlier versions of FrontPage. I would open an HTML, PHP, ASP page and the spacing/formatting had more spaces and carriage returns making it a little bit more challenging to read the code. This made it prone to coding errors.

On a side note, Has anyone ever worked with the newer version from MS called Expression Web? Or is there supposed to be a FrontPage 2007?

If its a wysiwyg/live preview then FP 2003 would be fine
Or Araneae is a great one that I enjoy using when dealing with code

With noobs , NVU and fckeditor , are better .

But if u want to handle raw code , then consider using , Aranae or maybe Notepad++ . Its great .

i started on AceHTMLfreeware and still use it tho i still say i just started!
its free and great its basicaly notpad with a viewer and toolbar with codes
the it doesnt have the wysiwyg witch would probaly be best for a client!
i still will copy code to frontpage or any wysiwyg editor to find a spot on a big page etc and copy back to ace to save!
    ace get my vote
but depending on thier kno i would recomend a wysiwyg not front page tho!
