    every single file and folder has a 777 permission, that's what is driving me mad

    me/xxxxx/public_html/news/.rss.htm

    maybe its the . in front of rss ? should it be rss.htm?

    fOpen has to be enabled so that the script can pull in the rss feed from an outside url/domain.
