I've just made a new website and im trying to get it on the top rankings and searches on google but i don't know what im doing really so i need a bit of help
OK, first of all it is Good that you are aiming that high. Keep in mind getting on the first pages of Google is extremely difficult, yet NOT impossible. So, you must do quite a few things. You must optimize your site in order to be search engine ready. Among webmasters (which I am not, let that be clear), this is called SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This means that your site must have quality original content. You may want a webmaster to analyze your site for you, and tell you what is needed in order for it to be optimized. You must do a series of things that will help increase your ranking, like Article writing and distributing. As well as, spread backlinks everywhere you can, like forums, blogs, classifieds, etc. SEO experts can guide you better on that matter. As for the articles, that is my expertise, they have to be informative, high quality articles, with your chosen keywords nicely integrated in the article. You will probably here a lot of bogus recommendations from people telling you that you need more than ten percent keyword density. Or, that your article does not really need to make sense, just have your keywords in it. But this is all FALSE. I can tell you that in my experience writing SEO Articles, my clients are pretty specific as to what they want. And THE ONE thing they all agree on is that, Google LOVES good quality and great content.
Be ready for a long hard fight. First page rankings are tough, even in niche markets sometimes. You're going to have to be patient and work hard. It might help to read up on SEO, SEM, and PPC.

maybe next time the first thing you should do is found your best key word/search term/ key phrase before you choose a domain and build a website. after you found it and you sure with your keyword, then choose a domain then build a website. it will be more easy to your website to optimize to top 10 result in Google page.
There are many possible strategies to do in order to be on top rank. Optimize your page by incorporating simple key words that can easily be searched. make sure that you have a relevant and unique content as well so that readers are interested to know what you are talking about.
SEO is the best ongoing process. it has two factors namely on-site seo and off-site seo. but bear in mind, your site will not show up quickly in search engine results from the day one. SEO requires some patience, but it needs to keep on going.
Just remember everything takes time and its alot of knowledge and testing to be done, but if you can't do it or put in all the time, hire someone, seriously if you can do it.
