I bulit a website doing a very small honest business and really want to do some SEO to get a start, (I submitted the site for two months now and it still didn't appear in any major search engine at all!) Then I came across a website claimed that by paying $2.95 i could get a secret formula to get to top five position in most of the major search engines within 30 days and to maintain the similar position with a monthly fee about $27 , has anyone tried that kind of thing before? of course i want to learn working on SEO myself just that i really don't understand most of the lessons and tips i've looked up, and i know there are tons of professionals would help but i really can't afford their fees, so, Could anyone here give some advice pls? cos i'm desperate for some, thanks in advance!

This website is definitely a start. Troll the different sections that pertain to what your doing. Try asking specific questions, general questions are usually covered in FAQ's or Guides and can be found stickied the top of the sections.
Just keep adding content and building back links...and be patient. It often takes 4 to 6 months to rank for semi-competitive keywords. You'll rank for some long tail keywords fairly soon and if your content is any good you'll get some natural back links from people who found your site interesting.
Firstly the secret formula stuff is total crap, there's no secret formula to SEO since there's literally thousands of webmasters doing SEO everyday and giving information about what they do for free. The hard part is knowing what is fact from fiction, despite many well intentioned webmasters trying to help each other out a lot of information out there is just plain wrong. I'm an SEO consultant and from the sounds of things you can't afford my services, (also not taking on clients at the moment anyway) but I put out free info when I get the time at http://www.seo-gold.com/seo-tutorial and http://www.seo-consultant-services.co.uk/which is accurate (if I haven't tested a concept myself, it's not wrote about on those sites). Secondly submitting your site to search engines like Google is a waste of time, it will not get AND keep your site indexed in Google long term. The main search engines rely on search engine spiders (Googles is called Googlebot) that crawls the Internet through links from other site. If your site has no links to it from other sites then the search engines spiders can not find your site. More links you have, more likely a spider will stumble on your site and spider and then index it (index means you can find your pages with this search site:example.com Replace example.com with your domain name and this will show you every page indexed in Google from your domain. Can also pick up pages that have your domain name in the URL as well, don't worry about those it's normal. So don't waste your valuable time submitting your site to search engines, instead look for ways to gain links to your site. One way is to give something away for free, I have some older WordPress themes with search engine optimised code and AdSense ads included that visitors can download for free from one of my sites and those pages get plenty of links. There are many other ways to gain links. After that ask specific questions about your site here since your first question is way to general to give specific advice. BTW of the 7 tips Titmizi listed, I only do tips 1 and 5 on a regular basis (7 is a good tip). Tip 3 isn't important, makes no difference if you update your site every 5 mins or once a year, can still be indexed in the search engines and given high rankings. Tips 2 and 4, OK it can be useful to look at competitor sites, but SEO is SEO, doesn't matter if your trying to rank for SERPs like "fish n chip shops in China" or "desktop PCs" the optimisation steps are pretty much the same, with a SERP like "desktop PCs" your going to need more links than for the other highly specific (probably very easy) SERP. Tip 6 only relevant for some types of site and not really an SEO tip per se, guess it depends what type of traffic you are after. Good luck and don't believe everything you read about SEO and if anyone tells you they can get you top 5 with a secret formula fast for $3, ask yourself why on earth would they sell it for so little? If it's so easy they could make a quality info page for many high traffic money phrases, add AdSense ads and be stinking rich in under a year. If it sounds to good to be true it is. David Law
