i think if microsoft keep going the way they are going they will put google out of buisness, because they already have won over almost evryone for the computer os and their ims and now they have got live search.

in a few years time i bet it will be microsoft who is on top, lol!

if microsoft bought yahoo they could easily take over google. or if everyone boycotted anything to do with google.

in theory, yes, anything can be "beaten"

Everyone switch off your computers for a week and someone cut the power supply to googles headquarters :p by that time their shares may have dropped enough to make a recovery impossible. :)

Just based on what I've seen in rebuilding the site Live has a long road ahead to catch google, so does yahoo. Google indexes sites at a terrificly rapid rate. Even new pages on the site are being indexed in a matter or hours or days meanwhile it took a lot of prodding to get MS to even figure out why the site got dumped from the index. They're responsive but they don't have many answers.

The Google AdWords program still seems to be pretty filled with fake/fraud clicks but their indexing seems to be very up to date.

If you could game good on linux and get enough apps for linux, Microsoft will be fucked.

As for anything beating google, i highly doubt that.

How many google products do you currently rely on? how much do politicians rely on holding information on you?

Google can provide that information, in return the governments can provide endless favours for them.

Looking forward to google banking? because i believe its coming. :)

People love Google right now. So it could be near impossible to beat them.

Yahoo owns part of Google. Google and Yahoo have something like 85% of the market.

For search traffic there are few alternatives. Rather than worrying about something you can't control try to build alternative traffic sources.

I think, the small, emerging "Web 2.0" sites, slowing growing up, will kick ass Google (a little bit) in the next 5 years or so. What do you think?

It seems to go in cycles - right now it seems google is the big dawg and we will have to wait and see what the future holds

i didn't read all the threads but the question is can google be beat. fundamentally it's possible to beat them at there own game, which is basically relevance. wikipedia is gonna give it a shot based on this theory. There launch is within 2 years and looks like they have a winner.

google started with an all nw concept , i.e advetizing through search engine , at that time yahoo was laughing at google . bec nobudy though it can be profitable ,one has to look in 4th dimension to beat google in his own game.. ( like searching with images instead of text)
