    Well, if you are a pure newbie I would suggest goto:
    w3schools.com/js/default.asp

    If you have basic skills of Javascript then goto the above link that dude has suggested

    Also a tip, learn some jQuery too ;)

    if you wanna see some samples what javascript is capable of, you might wanna check ext.js. (ext.js is a free js library)
    (just google it, sorry i cant give url, it says i dont have permission to paste url's in the posts :()
